Ayada Leads is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization located in Minneapolis. Our mission is to provide comprehensive leadership development programs to New Americans, particularly  African Diaspora Women, to have the skills necessary to become effective leaders and engaged  citizens in their communities.

Hours & Salary:
Full-time | $45,000-$50,000/year
Description of Duties  
  • Develop and coordinate Ayada Leads’ civic engagement initiatives - including strategies  for registering African diaspora members to vote. 

  • Manage voter registration, voter education, and Get Out the Vote programs, overseeing  volunteers and fellow organizer and building community relationships to meet goals.

  • Utilize Civic Engagement digital technology and databases, including the Voter Activation  Network (VAN), and peer-to-peer and robo-texting messaging tools. 

  • Cultivate key relationships and partnerships with community leaders and community-based organizations in the African diaspora communities and network.  

  • Monitor state and local governments policies, write briefing papers and position  statements, and conduct appropriate public policy and related research. 

  • Participate in policy forums and coalition meetings and testify before legislative and  regulatory bodies, as necessary. 

  • Create programming regarding knowledge gaps in policy, local and statewide  government, and community organizing 

  • Create Calls to Action 

  • Participate in coalition meetings  

  • Build meaningful relationships with activists and organizations whose work aligns  with our mission 

  • Create opportunities to collaborate with community partners 

  • Outreach to new organizations and community groups 

  • Hold community forums to identify what the community’s energy is around policies

  • Facilitate civic engagement workshops 

  • Create a volunteer network of individuals interested in participating in direct action

Who We Seek

We are looking for an ambitious and energetic Civic Engagement and Advocacy Manager (CEAM) to join our team! Team-oriented, the CEAM will lead Ayada Leads civic engagement  and advocacy work around creating more equitable policies and forms of government and  elections.

Skills and Qualifications
  • While a college degree is preferred, some combination of coursework and experience in a  civic engagement program, advocacy, or community organizing-related professional  experience, is acceptable for consideration for this position. 

  • Excellent, well-developed verbal and writing skills are essential 

  • Bilingual Somali/English or Oromo/English skills are preferable and a demonstrated  commitment to African diaspora communities’ success is necessary. 

  • Experience working in Civic Engagement Campaigns 

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers 

  • Ideal applicants will be efficient, results-oriented with high energy, and exhibit an  exceptional ability to work with others.
