Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

MN 5TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is the first Somali-American Member of Congress, the first woman of color to represent Minnesota, and the first woman to wear a hijab on the congressional floor. Elected to the U.S. House in 2018, she previously made history in 2016 as Minnesota’s first Somali-American State Legislator for District 60B. A champion of progressive policies, Omar supports a $15 minimum wage, student loan cancellation, and the Green New Deal. She won re-election in 2022 and continues to serve Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
