Why Run For Office?
Updated: Jan 4, 2021
Are you a woman of color who is thinking about running for office? As it is, there is a great need for more women and, specifically, women of color, to get involved in politics, as well as many reasons why they and you should. Here are some of the many reasons why you should consider running for public office: Political Organizations Minneapolis-St Paul MN
Make Your Voice Be Heard
One major reason to run for office is that it will allow you to make sure your voice is being heard and will also allow you the opportunity to give a voice to those whose voices perhaps haven’t been heard historically or whose voices may still not may not be heard. If there are issues that are close to your heart that you want to make sure are being addressed and talked about and that solutions to those issues are being proposed, then the best way to do so is to run for office and make your voice, and the voices of those you will be representing, be heard.
Create A More Representative & Equitable Democracy
Another reason why you should consider running for office is because you can help to create a democracy that is more representative and equitable. Despite making up more than half the population in the United States, women only account for roughly 25% of legislators and are grossly underrepresented in our democracy. The same can be said for minority groups as well. Therefore, by running for office, you can help to create a democracy that is actually representative of your community, city, state, or country, and one that is inclusive rather than exclusive.
Participate In & Lead The Change
Lastly, by running for office, you can help to participate in and lead the change you want to see in the world. When there are changes that need to be made, rather than leaving it up to someone else, you will have the opportunity to be a part of those changes and to make those changes happen. Whether it has to do with the environment, minimum wage, affordable housing, or some other type of issue that you feel needs to be addressed and taken care of, you are able to play an active role in making those changes happen when you run for and win public office.
